Installing the Rapidmooc App for a non-admin Windows user

Version 1.02 – January 2022

Presentation

The Rapidmooc application is based on the UWP Universal Windows Platform and has, as such, a reinforced security (e.g.: impossibility for the application to write in directories other than those specific to the user "My documents", "My videos", "My images",...).

The application is also secured by a code signing certificate from an approved authority. Code signing has two functions: it confirms the identity of the author of the software and proves that the code has not been modified or altered after signing.

Rapidmooc is a standalone (desktop) application that does not rely on external cloud/web components to operate. Thus, if needed, the Rapidmooc kiosk can operate in a completely disconnected mode for video recording which remains the main functionality.

The content of this document deals with the installation of the Rapidmooc application for a Windows user without administrator rights.

Please note that it is technically possible to provision the automatic installation of the Rapidmooc application for any newly created user although this is not covered in this document.

Prerequisites

It is recommended to apply the latest Windows updates before proceeding with the installation procedure. In case of installation on a PC not supplied by Rapidmooc, the pre-installed operating system must be Windows 10 pro 64 bits, version 20H2 or later. To be noted that the Rapidmooc application and hardware are fully compatible with Windows 11.

The computer on which you want to install the application must be connected to the internet.

You may be asked to enter the administrator password during the installation process.

To do this, open the Windows settings screen (via the start menu or the WINDOWS + I key combination). Then click on "Update &Security" as below:
